 Excerpt:

The main doors of the room opened as Lauren paused her scan; the guest of honor was about to enter. Grabbing her camera, Lauren stood—only to immediately collapse back down into her chair when her knees gave out at the sight of Nathaniel Callahan standing in the doorway.

“Oh my God.” Her stomach hit the floor.

“What's the matter? Are you okay?” Callie's concerned voice sounded as if it were traveling a great distance to reach her.

Lauren glanced over at Callie and then toward the door again. Perhaps she'd imagined him. After all, why would he be here? The last time she'd heard anything about him, he was doing his third tour in the Middle East. Despite her hope that she'd started to hallucinate, when she looked again, he was still there, dressed in a black suit rather than his Marine uniform, his brown hair cut military short and looking much the same as he did the summer he'd broken her heart. She latched her hand onto Callie's arm. “Nate Callahan. He's here.”

She kept her eyes on him. Since that awful day the summer after senior year, she'd only seen him once. She'd been home visiting her parents during holiday break her freshman year of college. She’d spotted him in his parents' driveway from her bedroom window. They'd received more than two feet of snow the night before and he was helping his father shovel. That morning she'd stood and
watched until the entire driveway was cleared. When he and his dad finished, he went back inside his house without so much as a glance toward her home.

“What?” Callie asked, her voice louder than necessary.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kevin and Dylan headed back to the
table. "Nate just walked in," Lauren hissed.

"Lauren that . . ." Callie's voice trailed off and she sat up straighter. Her head moved to keep him in sight as he walked toward his parents. "What's he doing here?" she asked, her voice lower
now.

Leaning closer, Lauren whispered, "I don't know. We don't exactly  speak."

Author Bio:
I wrote my first story with characters similar to those in the Sweet Valley Twins books at the age of 10 on my
grandmother's manual typewriter. As I got older my stories and characters became more mature. During my freshman year at UMass Dartmouth, I read my first romance novel and fell in love with the genre. I have been writing contemporary romance
ever since.

Today I live with my husband, three beautiful daughters and two dogs in Massachusetts. Whenever I have a free moment you'll find me either reading a romance novel or working on my most
current story.

AUTHOR BIO:

Lori King is an everyday woman, born and raised right smack in the middle of the country in the ever-conservative state of Kansas. She juggles three sons, a husband, a dog, a turtle, and way too many
extra-curricular activities to mention.

Writing is a way of stepping outside of the real world, and embracing something new and different for her. A hopeless romantic, she spends her days dreaming up Alpha men, and her nights telling their stories while always looking for the happily ever after. Find out more about her current
projects at
http://www.lorikingbooks.wordpress.com/.

How long have you been an author?  My first book was published in July 2012.

Have there been any surprises along the way? The biggest surprise has been how loyal
and truly amazing the readers are. Many of my readers have become friends, and they encourage and motivate me in ways I can’t even explain.

Why this story? What was your inspiration to write it? Liam and Tina’s story came to
me while I was writing the first book in The Gray Pack series, Fire of the Wolf. Liam was a man who survived a tragedy of epic proportions, and Tina carried a whole load of guilt for a painful past she couldn’t control. They were two wounded souls that needed each other in order to rebuild themselves.

What was your favorite part of the book to write?  My favorite part of all of The Gray Pack
books is when I get the entire cast of characters together and watch them interact. The series follows the inner circle of a werewolf pack, and the men and women I write about work hard, play hard, and love even harder. They are hilarious and heartwarming and they always keep me
guessing.

Is there a message you want your readers to take away from this book? I want
readers to take away the message that even a cracked mirror can reflect a beautiful image. We all carry pain and baggage from our past, but we can’t let that define our future. Tina was willing to forgo love in order to avoid the possibility of having to face pain again, and Liam wasn’t willing to let her
go. They made for an epic love story and were two of my favorite characters ever.

Do you have any other upcoming releases or projects you would like to talk about? I just released the fourth book of The Gray Pack: Dreams of the Wolf, and I’m working on book five now. I also have collaboration project coming out in September with Siren Publishing. Sunset Point is a series about an exclusive tropical island community that accepts all relationships including ménage. A week after Sunset Point releases, I have Weekend Surrender coming out with JK Publishing. This is the first book in my Surrender Trilogy.

Where  can readers find you? Keep up with all of my current projects via my blog
www.LoriKingBooks.wordpress.com or follow me on Facebook or Twitter.

Fun Questions:

Who is on your "to be read" shelf?  I have about four thousand books on my Kindle right now, plus dozens of others on my computer and my book shelf. I couldn’t even begin to list all of them, and it
will take me years to read them all.

What are you reading now? Laurie Roma’s IAD series, and I’m impatiently waiting for Lexi Blake’s second book in the Thieves series to come out. Outside of romance I love spy novels, so I’m always rereading Ted Bell’s books.

If you could only pick one book from your childhood to preserve for others to read, what would it be? The Giver by Lois Lowery

How do you find your muse?  It depends. Sometimes I have to tease her with a margarita and chocolate when she’s in hiding, and other times she won’t shut up. I get my best story ideas in the
shower, so I take a lot longer showers when I’m stuck in a story.

Where is your favorite spot to write? My living room sofa with my laptop in my lap and a Diet Dr. Pepper next to me.

What book do you think should be made into a movie? My new series Sunset Point would make an awesome movie! Sex, kidnapping, danger, cops, tropical paradise, ménage, cupcakes, and tattoos…really what could be better?

 EXCERPT:

She didn’t protest when he carried her into the house and directly into a bedroom.
She wasn’t really sure her brain would have worked if she wanted to argue.
Pressed so tightly to him and licking her way down his jaw and neck, she
couldn’t see much of the room, but she knew it had to be his. It smelled like
him, like the woods after it rains. God, he smelled good. He tasted even
better.

Easing her down his body until she had her feet under her, he kept his arms around her
and his hands fondling her ass. She sighed with relief when he whipped her shirt
off over her head and his mouth closed over her lace-covered nipple.

“Oh, Lord have mercy!” she cried as he pulled the bra cup down and sucked her swollen
nipple deeper into his mouth. His hands went to the clasp at her back, and she
felt the lace drop from her body. A small voice in her head told her to stop
him, but her body reacted intuitively to him. She pushed her own small hands up
under his tight T-shirt, finally getting her first feel of his hard torso. His
nearly hairless chest was hot to the touch, and she followed the smattering of
hair down his pecks all the way to the button of his jeans. “Mmm…that’s
delicious.” She moaned to him as she ran her hands back up over his washboard
abs.

His soft growl of pleasure urged her on, and she pushed his shirt up and off of him.
She bent to lick his flat, brown nipple before brushing her naked breasts across
his skin, moaning at the contact. Her nipples puckered even tighter at the
sensuous caress. Her hands explored every inch of his chest, shoulders, and
thick arms, pausing to trace the colorful tattoo on his shoulder. She couldn’t
believe how sexy that ink was adorning his golden skin. She rubbed her thighs
tightly together, attempting to force much-needed friction against her throbbing
clit. His fingers went to the top of her sweatpants and pushed their way
underneath to the top of her slit before delving into her moisture. She gasped
and gripped his shoulders tightly as her knees buckled.

“Damn, you’re so wet for me. Let’s get these clothes off so that I can see you,
sweetheart,” he said tightly as he pushed her pants and panties off of her slim
body. He took a step back from her to gape at her nude form. “You are so
beautiful.”

She flushed and let her gaze drop to the bulge behind his zipper. “You’re still
dressed…” she said, and he hurriedly jerked his own jeans off. He stood proudly
and let her eye take in his perfect form. Her eyes drifted from his golden chest
along his curved groin muscles that pointed downward. Damn, those muscles were
sexy. She reached out and ran her finger tips over them letting her nails scrape
across his skin. He shuddered and growled, his eyes snapping with heat. She
licked her lips as she stared at the thick cock that jutted from his groin. He
was massive. A ripple of apprehension went through her, and she jerked her eyes
up to his.

“Oh my God,” she whispered warily.

“Thank you, I will take that as a compliment. It will fit. Trust me.” He grinned
arrogantly and reached for her.

“There’s only one real way to test that, isn’t there,” she teased, and reached her hand
out to cup his thick cock in her palm. Even the softness of the skin, and the
weight of it in her grip made her hot, hot satin over steel and just sticky
enough to be exciting. Easing her body to the floor until she knelt in front of
him with his hard shaft in her hand, she stuck her tongue out to lick the
moisture from the head, drawing a desperate gasp from him.

“Fuck.” He groaned as she took him into her mouth. She hadn’t given a blow job in years,
and it felt slightly awkward and uncomfortable at first. She backed off so that
just the head was between her lips and used her tongue to stroke the sensitive
spot underneath.

Liam’s hand gripped her scalp involuntarily, and she mewled her pleasure at his
forcefulness. Before she could attempt to suck him down her throat again, he
gave her short hair a little tug and pulled her upward until she was standing.

“If you don’t stop now, you’ll be swallowing,”he said in a husky voice that made her
shiver. After brushing his lips over hers softly, he tumbled her backward onto
the bed behind her.

She giggled when he pulled her foot to his mouth and kissed along the arch and
upward over her ankle.

“No giggling in my bed, Sweet Tina. That’s bad for my ego. It might make me think
you are laughing at me. If you’re laughing at me, then I’m not doing my job,” he
said into her thigh as his mouth drifted closer and closer to her center. The
rasp of short whiskers across the soft skin of her inner thigh sent flames
across her skin, and she exhaled sharply.

“I’m definitely not laughing at you. You make me feel so sexy,” she said, arching
toward him. She thrust her hips upward, trying to get his mouth where she wanted
it. His responding chuckle vibrated against her pussy lips.

“You are sexy, Sweet Tina. More than I ever could have dreamed. Let me taste you.”
With that, he placed a hot kiss on her pussy.

She held her hand up to the door and held her breath. It clicked open stunning her.
He hadn’t changed the wards in all this time? She stepped inside and the doors
slammed behind her. The lights went up and she found him seated in black,
leather chair.

“I’ve waited almost a century for this moment. To watch you come back and beg me for
something. The way I did when you left me, do you remember that
Night?”

“Yes,” she whispered. The foyer that used to welcome him home seemed cold. There was no
fire in the hearth behind him and the couches were black
leather.

“I figure you want something. If I say no, you’ll be humiliated because you made
the trip for nothing. If I say yes, it’ll come with a horrific set of clauses.
So I win, or I win.” The maniacal laughter that spilled from his perfectly
shaped lips sent an icy stab of fear through her bones. This was the side of him
that scared her, though it’d never been directed toward her until now. “So tell
me what brings you down here to … slum.” He splayed his elegant fingers over the
arms of the couch and leaned back, observing her.

“Our daughter.”

“Oh…she’s our daughter now? Funny how that changed as soon as I caught wind of it.”

“She’s always been your daughter, Lucifer, that was the problem.” She was pinned to the door, lifted off her feet and held by her throat before she could think to react. Damn, I forgot how fast he is. He didn’t harm her, or exert pressure, but his point came across loud and clear.

“You’d better watch how you talk to me now Night. You’re no longer in my favor, wife or not.”

“I meant it literally.” She licked her lips. “It was why I left, her duality…this place would’ve eaten her alive. Between the pull to be dark and the call of the light, she wouldn’t have stood a chance. She needed a neutral place to learn control, how to balance, and thrive.”

He lowered his hand and she slid down, grateful when her feet kissed the ground.“Go on.”

“Even on the surface she ran into issues growing up, starting fires, fits of rage, and at times a pension for some very dark behavior. You were just starting to rebuild your army .I couldn’t allow her to
be just another soldier.”

“After two eons together you didn’t trust me enough to tell me?” His words twisted the knife into her gut. Shame weighed heavily on her.

“Not at that time… war was all you saw.” She shook her head.

“It was my right to know. And why cheat?” Despite his aloof façade his voice held a hint of
hurt.

“I had to make you believe it. You always saw through me like glass. I needed to ...” She shook her
head.

He narrowed his eyes leaned forward to peer deep into her brown eyes. His red gaze burned her. “That was a lie too wasn’t it?”

“Y-yes.”Her lower lip trembled. Relief slammed into her like a seven ton. Finally after all this time he knew the truth.

He tsked.“What am I to do with you? You knew when we joined our souls our bound could never truly be broken. Marriage to the king of hell is eternal, it was in the contract. Now you return to tell me your mass exodus was in the best interest of my child.” He frowned. “It does nothing to
quell my anger. I am not appeased. Did you think your revelation would soften me
in some way?”

“No.”Ashamed she kept her gaze trained on the ground. A part of her had hoped. Too many romantic comedies had her thinking she had a snowballs chance in hell of a happily ever after. “I came to make a deal.”

“What would you have that I can’t take?” His sneer felt like an open hand smack to the face. Her heart stuttered. All the years she’d been pinning he’d grown his hate. It was an impossible situation of her own making. She wanted to open up, tell him how difficult the years had been. That she’d never stopped loving him. Instead she buried her head in the sand like an ostrich and prayed for the best.

“Me.” Guess I really am a coward.

“Are you really that self centered?” He scoffed.

“My freedom in exchange for the prophecy, we both know if you managed to convince Heavenleigh to open that gate, all the powers in heaven will be after her. She’ll never be safe. The life she has now will be in ruins. The only place she’ll have to go is here, and over time…you know exactly what
will happen to her.”

“We’d be out. Protection wouldn’t be an issue.” He scoffed.

“She’s a child of the light too. What do you think being enclosed in darkness indefinitely would do? Some of these people are here for a very good reason. Unleashing them would be like swallowing the sun. Is your need to prove a point worth that?” She held her breath. Have I gone too far?

“Details.” His voice was nonchalant but his eyes were anything but. His mind moved a mile a minute, always ten steps ahead.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“Hmmm.” He gave her a heated once over. “You probably will be. I need more details to truly consider your offer. What does… having you really mean?”

Squeezing her eyes shut she balled her hands into fists. I knew we’d come to this, eventually. She licked her dry lips, peeled her eyelids open and met his cool stare. “What do you think it
means?”

“No games! You came here and propositioned me. So, you’d better come correct.”

“It means…I’m your puppet. Is that what you wanted to hear?” Just when I thought I couldn’t sink any lower he shows me I’m wrong. Typical for him in general, but it wasn’t a talent she’d ever expected to be on the receiving end of.

“No.”

She balked. This is the only thing I have to barter. Is this a ploy to make me beg?

“I want to hear you say you’re my slave.” A lustful leer twisted his face into something ugly.

“Are you starting now?” The bravado she placed in her tone conflicted with the desolate forest of her
soul.

“I want to sample the good before I…” he grinned. “Purchase them.”

“I’m your slave.” Uttering the words snapped the thin reed of hope she’d held for them into.

“Yes, you are.” He nodded.

Goddess Fish - Past Regrets by Shelley Munro

Never look back…unless that’s where your heart belongs.

Love and Friendship, Book 2

Julia Maxwell was a seize-the-moment party girl until the night she spent with up-and-coming rocker Ryan Callander. From that moment, she was a one-man woman. Pity he hasn’t kept with the program.

Tired of the secrets that have kept her out of the press and Ryan’s fans happy, angry with mounting evidence of infidelity, Julia is older, wiser, and determined to divorce his cheatin’ ass.

Ryan’s long European tour had more than its share of hard knocks—one of which landed on his head when he was mugged. Divorce papers waiting for him at home are a shock that fills in some of the holes in his sketchy memory. But it could be too late to salvage his marriage.

If Ryan thinks flirtatious smiles, seductive touches, and hot-and-heavy kisses are going to smooth things over, Julia’s got a hammer with his name on it. To her surprise, he picks it up, determined to rebuild a bright future for both of them. But the past is lurking with some missing pieces that could bring their hearts crashing down.

Warning: Contains a pissed ex-stripper turned burlesque dancer, a bunch of nosy friends and a smooth-talking rocker with one thing on his mind. Stripper poles and skimpy costumes may be involved.

Excerpt:

“You went to your family christening over Anniversary weekend. Julia and I went to Fiji for a four day break and married while we were there.”

“Congratulations.”

“She’s served divorce papers on me,” Ryan said with a snarl, anger warring with the jagged knife slicing into his brain. He loved her, damn it. “I’m not letting her go without a fight.”

Caleb’s grin lit up his face. “And I worried I’d be bored taking a three-month break.” He rubbed his hands together. “This should be fun.”

“There’s nothing funny about a divorce.”

The amusement quit Caleb. “I know that, man, but I know you. Julia won’t stand a chance. She’ll be putty in your hands again in days. I’ll be your wingman.”

Ryan’s hackles rose and his fingers balled to fists. “You won’t be putting your hands on my wife again. That was a one-time thing.”

Caleb raised his hands in surrender, his gaze steady, reassuring, and some of the tension seeped from Ryan. Caleb was his friend, not the enemy.

“Why don’t we go back to the apartment, grab a few hours’ sleep then stake out her place. You can confront her when we run her to ground.”

It was a sensible solution, despite his need for immediate action. He hesitated before admitting to his exhaustion. The damn headache had taken hold, and his skull thumped like the crazy beat of Neil’s
drums during a solo spot. “Yeah, okay. Sounds like a plan.”

Down but not out. Julia was his wife. His woman, and soon no one would doubt it, least of all
her.
