“Zen! Get in here.”

Zen rolled his eyes at Chief’s voice booming through the phone intercom and pushed away from his desk. Leaving the comfort of his corner office, he ignored the “ooos” of his fellow coworkers scattered throughout the low-wall partitioned cube farm. He jokingly gave them the middle finger as he turned toward his boss’s office.

Owen “Chief” Krantz, owner of The Agency, wanted to see him, and it wasn’t because he was in trouble, as those around him would like to believe. A new protégé was in his future—if his earlier glimpse of the young pup coming to report for his first day of work was any indication.

Another rookie. The Chief loved to give him “the fresh fish.” He said if the trainees could survive him and his attitude, they could survive anything. He couldn’t argue. The work he did for The Agency was serious, and he expected others to take it the same way. Unfortunately, a good portion of the new employees who came in didn’t. They treated what went on with the cases as a novelty.

Stupid reality shows, making the search for the paranormal, supernatural, and alien existence seem like easy fun. Real people had real issues. They needed to be treated with respect.

Luckily, he did have a way of reading people and cutting through the bullshit, and most people couldn’t handle his frankness. It’s the reason why his boss gave him the newbies. He weeded out the nonserious adventure-seekers. All three “fish” he had in the past year and a half left The Agency and went on to other careers. When the third left, the guy said he was going to go work in his brother’s kennel—the bitches there would be nicer to him.

So be it. Zen liked working alone.

Chief’s office door stood open an inch. Before entering, he decided to take a moment to assess the situation. Always good to get the lay of the land before stepping into something new. Peering in, he fixed his gaze on the recent hire standing opposite Owen, who was sitting at his desk, and purposely eavesdropped on the conversation.

The new guy was already nitpicking his role at The Agency. His main beef: working with Zen on assignments.

Raising Her Hopes

May Williams
A Historical Victorian Romance
Turquoise Morning Press Vintage

When Sidney White arrives in England, he seems like the perfect man for Belinda Ferguson.
She wants to love him, but first she must overcome her past before she is free to raise her hopes.

Sidney Ferguson has one objective when he arrives in Bath, England. He plans to leave his daughter with relatives before returning to the United States to embark on a dangerous mission for the Union Army.

An encounter with the beautiful Belinda Ferguson strikes like lightning at his heart, but she doesn’t give her love or attention freely. Belinda’s past makes her cautious about placing her trust, especially in a man who must leave her to complete his task.

Despite the separation his work requires, Sidney convinces her to risk loving him and she dares to raise her hopes.

Excerpt:
Belinda barely made it twenty paces outside the Hazel’s door when Sidney came alongside her and fell into step. He didn’t reach for her arm as she expected, but he was close enough that they bumped shoulders.

“I believe it was my job to see you home this evening,” he said as they crossed the center of the square.

“You’re undoing years worth of work on my part.” She tried for a light, breezy tone as if his presence were entirely superfluous.

“How so?”

“I’d finally convinced Benjamin that I didn’t need an escort. After you return to the States, I’m sure he’ll go back to walking me home and I shall have to start all over again.”

“My apologies, but there’s an obvious difference between his intentions and mine.”

“Is there?” she questioned. “The walk is the same.”

“I’m sure Benjamin does not wish to kiss you as I do.”

“Mr. White.” She stopped in the glow of a street light and faced him, trying to formulate a firm rebuff and control her rapidly beating pulse.

“Please, will you call me Sidney?”

“No, I don’t think I shall. You may turn back now. I can see my gate.” She resumed walking. Any man of sense would cease following her.

“Do you dismiss Mr. Barth in the same way? Or is he allowed a kiss and entrance past your door?”

“My relationship with Mr. Barth is not your concern. Please leave me or I shall have to assume Benjamin’s ill opinion of you is correct and my hasty judgment a few nights ago was erroneous.” She tried for a haughty tone to use as a weapon against him, but as usual it failed her. Being too nice could be a curse at times. “Perhaps you are a rogue after all,” she finished, slightly breathless, with one hand on her gate and the other held out in a gesture meant to stop him.

Brushing by her upraised hand, he closed the distance between them. “I hate the thought of proving my brother-in-law correct,” he put a finger under her chin and tipped her face up, “but some things are worth the risk.”

His lips were soft, yet demanding, as they met hers. She wanted to resist, to seal her lips tight, but the stirring of passion she felt in him under the controlled surface matched hers. When his arms circled her, she placed her hands on his lapels not to push him back, but to touch him, to have the impression of his strength on her fingers.
He broke the kiss she’d been unable and unwilling to resist and mercifully stayed silent while her world righted itself. No man other than Heath had ever kissed her, held her like this. She’d evaded Mr. Barth and he was too nice to press her. This man was different. He had no fear of demanding what he wanted. She had every fear of giving in to his demands.

“Goodnight, Belinda,” he whispered close to her ear.

About the Author:
May loves romance. Big pink roses, chocolate hearts, sunset walks, but, most of all, she loves romance novels. She’s been reading romances since she first discovered the public library where the librarians didn't notice or didn't care what she was checking out even though she hadn't hit puberty yet.
Since then, May has continued to read every genre of romance, but she writes mostly historical. Places and time periods have stories to tell. And she likes to listen. Her most recent novels are Victorian era pieces where she can imagine beautiful gowns and elegant teas.

When May’s not writing, she manages a houseful of children, pets, and flowers grown in her garden.

Excerpt:

“These are for you! He said as he slowly brought his hands around to show me the dozen of red and yellow roses he had gotten for me. He kissed me on the back of my neck. “Well, do you like it?”

I couldn’t believe he was acting so casual after just punching me forty minutes ago. He must be suffering from personality dissociation.

“Of course,” I replied with a fake smile on my bruised face. “Thank you, baby.”

“Can you forgive me for the way I have been acting? I know that’s my child you’re carrying. Is it a boy or a girl?” He asked as he rubs my stomach and kissed me tenderly.

“I don’t know yet, it’s too early to tell, but when I go back next week I can ask the doctor and you can go with me if you want to?”

“Hell, yeah, this is my first child, so I got to be there. I called my parents, and they are so thrilled too.”

The only reason I hugged Terence and forgave him is because of our baby, and I know it sounds stupid, but this is our first child and I refuse to be just another single black woman raising a child alone.

Erotic Excerpt:

The male guards like that and sometimes they ask if they can join in or watch; most of the time, with Strawberry’s permission, we let them join in on our session for a price. I really didn’t want to do that, because I believed in our marriage vows and keeping it just between us. The three guards took me into the craft room and the other two took Strawberry on the other side of the room. They handled me really good! I was licked, sucked and manhandled in the right way. I came so many times that I didn’t know what to do, and I could hear Strawberry moaning just a few feet away.

Dream Huntress by Michelle Sharp #Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Michelle will be awarding $30 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn winner via the rafflecopter at the end of this post.  Click on the banner to visit other stops on this tour.

Detective Jordan Delany has a gift. Through her dreams, she connects with dead victims of violent crimes. Her isolated life as a drug cop is perfect for hiding the freakish visions, until her newest investigation has her posing as a cocktail waitress in a down-and-dirty strip club. When she’s saved from a drunken customer by a handsome stranger, the heated chemistry is exactly why she intends to keep Mr. Arrogant at bay. But learning he’s the new bouncer for the corrupt club she intends to bust just might be the one reason why she can’t.

Tyler McGee suspects a drug ring operating out of the local club is flooding the streets of his hometown with heroin. Determined to get answers, he plays the part of a fallen cop and lands the job of head bouncer. What he discovers is that the club owner isn’t the only deadly obstacle he’s facing. His attraction to an intriguing cocktail waitress with a penchant for danger just might kill him first.

Enjoy an excerpt:

“I’m Tyler McGee. Everyone calls me Ty. And as far as the nurses are concerned, I’m your big brother.”

“I don’t have a brother.”

He shrugged and smiled. “You do now.”

She eyed him from top to bottom and back up again, deciding it was most likely the killer smile, rather than the lie, that had gained him access to her room.

His grin grew wider. He looked amused at her thorough inspection.

Why had she studied him as though he was the main course at dinner? Her cheeks flushed hot. “Well, Ty, thanks for everything, but I can manage from here.”

Leaning against a countertop, he folded his arms. “Yeah, you’re in great shape. You plan on jogging home with your head injury or just taking it slow and hitchhiking?”

Ah, yes. Now she remembered. He was truly as handsome as the devil but also as cocky. He’d probably only said about ten sentences before she passed out, but if her memory was coming back accurately, most of them were condescending.

“I’ll call a cab,” she snapped.

He chuckled. “In Titus? Sweetheart, where are you from? It sure isn’t around here.”

He strode to the bed then leaned in close as though he was letting her in on a dangerous secret. “In case you haven’t noticed, Titus isn’t exactly a thriving metropolis. We don’t have taxi service or buses. The closest thing to public transportation is Dan the Scooter Man. He makes a fortune driving people home from the bars. You want his number?”

Michelle Sharp is a romantic suspense author from the Midwest. Although she has a degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University, she finds weaving tales of danger, deception, and love much preferable to reporting the cold, hard facts. Her goal in life? To team resilient, kick-ass heroines with the sexy alpha’s who love them. As most writers probably are, she is an avid reader. Her husband and kids would call it obsessive—but whatever. Her first choice is usually a story with a thrilling combination of danger and love, but any book with a great voice and intriguing story will keep her turning pages well past any reasonable bed-time. Her debut novel will be published with Entangled Ignite in summer of 2014. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Missouri Romance Writers.

Excerpt:

“I don’t think I can. Please don’t make me have sex with you.”

Ornack sighed and she visibly relaxed when he straddled a chair several feet away from her.

“Oh, you could,” he said. “And you’d enjoy it. I’m not an ogre, however, nor so uncivilized that I would force my attentions where they’re not wanted.” He smiled at her sharp intake of breath. “Zorran brought you here to keep you safe. I have every intention of making sure you’ll stay safe, but I’ll need your cooperation for that.”

Fresh tears filled her eyes at the mention of Zorran, and Ornack bit back a curse.

“He’ll be back, you know,” he said, and she hugged her arms around herself and shook her head. The action pushed her breasts up and his mouth watered. Soon, he would have her, but not like this.

“He doesn’t want me. If he comes back, it will be for you.” Gemini straightened her shoulders and pushed away from the wall. After only the tiniest hesitation, she sat down in the chair next to him, and this time, when he offered her some wine, she took it.

“You’re not denying it then?” she asked.

“I wouldn’t insult your intelligence, Gemini. Yes, we’re lovers, have been for the last three years, but when he comes back it won’t be to fuck me. Well, not only me, I should say.”

He smirked as her eyes widened and heat stole into her cheeks.

“You can’t be serious.”

“I’m deadly serious. I’m expected to mate, having proven my ability to produce offspring. The problem is none of the females sent my way have shown half as much affection as you’ve shown my son tonight.”

“Then they’re fools. Magnuss is adorable.”

Her instant defense of his little tearaway made Ornack smile.

“You won’t say that when he bounces on your bed before the first rays of the sun have even broken over the mountain peak. Nor when he dive-bombs when you’re least expecting it, or hides a toad in your shoe. The list of his adventures is endless. Gerunda will tell you I was the same as a child.”

“She looked after you too?” Gemini asked.

“Yes, she did, and my father before me. Gerunda is one of the oldest living females of my species. In fact she is the last female born this side of the mountains. We seem to have lost the ability to father females altogether. Other parts of Drakon fare slightly better.”

“And you’re telling me this, why?” Gemini put her goblet down on the table with enough force to slosh the red wine over the sides, and her blue eyes blazed with indignation. “I won’t be your broodmare to help you populate this side of Drakon, if that’s what you mean by needing my cooperation.”

Her breath hitched and she glanced toward his crotch, where his cock was still trying to break out of the leggings he wore, and her nipples firmed into tight little bullets. She squirmed on her seat when Ornack didn’t say anything and simply sat watching her.

She exhaled sharply when he finally spoke.

“No, that’s not what I need your cooperation for, my sweet little human. I need to convince the King that I’m happily settled with my new wife.”

Ornack rather enjoyed the way her mouth fell open in stunned surprise.

* * * *

“Your what?” Gemini couldn’t have heard him right. He must be poking fun at her. That was the only explanation.

Instead of answering her Ornack smiled. It showed his fangs and his arctic eyes crinkled at the corners. Now that she looked at him properly she could see the fine laughter lines around his eyes, and the dimples in his cheeks. Magnuss had the same irresistible indentations. On him they looked cute. On his father, they did strange things to her insides, and she was glad to be sitting. The man was sex-on-legs gorgeous, and he clearly knew the effect he had on her.

Those lines deepened and he reached across to grasp her hand. She couldn’t suppress her gasp of surprise when he lifted her hand to his lips and dropped a kiss on the back of it.

“I told you. Zorran wants you safe, and as my wife, you have standing and protection, and you keep me off the king’s radar. It’s a win-win situation all around.”

“I won’t sleep with you.” She blurted that out without thinking and snatched her hand out his grasp. Much to her surprise he let her and laughed. It was a deep belly laugh that seemed to settle straight in her clit, and Gemini inwardly rolled her eyes at herself.

Author Bio:

Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris... at least that's what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to toddler and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies, and one very understanding and supportive husband. Domestic goddess she is not.

There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her characters tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps.

She likes to spin sensual, sassy, and sexy tales involving alpha heroes to die for, and heroines who give as good as they get. From contemporary to paranormal, BDSM to F/F, and Ménage, haunting love stories are guaranteed.
